I own the studio releases by the Black Crowes. I often hear that the best way to hear the Black Crowes is on the live recordings released on their website. With some bands, like Pearl Jam, there's a lot of info posted on forums that show a consensus as to the 'must haves' of their countless live recordings. From the people that buy these, can you suggest some of the best shows that are available to purchase? I've seen them live a bunch of times and it's always a great show, but I generally prefer the studio versions when listening at home. I don't know why, but Chris' lack of regard for the original melodies kind of irks me when listening to (some) live recordings.

Sadly, none of the live recordings available through the band go back to their live heyday of '92-'95, which is what I would recommend if you're looking to get some live Crowes stuff. My romance with Crowes ended abruptly after their first two excellent studio works and I guess it would be the best period to dig out some live tapes. In my opinion the subsequent 90s albums were getting progressively worse and worse, though I must admit that live EP 'Souled Out Live' from '98 tour has still touches of brilliance thanks to the expanded spirited rendition of 'My Morning Song' (very reminiscent of early Humble Pie's live excursions) and a few older gems thrown in for a good measure.
